Horoscope today

A daily horoscope reads the day’s sky for your Sun sign, the sign the Sun was in when you were born. To use one, you need two things: your exact sign (the dates shift a little from year to year, so the table below gives them precisely) and a sense of what each sign’s reading focuses on. This page gives you both, for all twelve signs, plus the way daily horoscopes are put together so you can tell a thoughtful one from filler.

This is a guide to the horoscope rather than a dated reading: it doesn’t change every morning, and it says so.

What is my zodiac sign? Exact dates for the 12 signs

Your Sun sign depends on the date the Sun entered that part of the zodiac in your birth year. Because the calendar and the Sun’s path don’t line up perfectly, the entry date moves by a day from one year to the next. The table gives the range of entry dates over 2020 to 2035 in Eastern Time, and the exact moment for 2027.

Sign Sun enters (ET, 2020 to 2035) Exact entry in 2027 (ET) Element Ruling planet
Aries Mar 19 or 20 Mar 20, 4:25 PM EDT Fire Mars
Taurus Apr 19 or 20 Apr 20, 3:18 AM EDT Earth Venus
Gemini May 20 or 21 May 21, 2:19 AM EDT Air Mercury
Cancer Jun 20 or 21 Jun 21, 10:11 AM EDT Water the Moon
Leo Jul 22 Jul 22, 9:05 PM EDT Fire the Sun
Virgo Aug 22 or 23 Aug 23, 4:15 AM EDT Earth Mercury
Libra Sep 22 or 23 Sep 23, 2:02 AM EDT Air Venus
Scorpio Oct 22 or 23 Oct 23, 11:33 AM EDT Water Mars (modern: Pluto)
Sagittarius Nov 21 or 22 Nov 22, 8:16 AM EST Fire Jupiter
Capricorn Dec 21 Dec 21, 9:42 PM EST Earth Saturn
Aquarius Jan 19 or 20 Jan 20, 2:30 AM EST Air Saturn (modern: Uranus)
Pisces Feb 18 Feb 18, 4:34 PM EST Water Jupiter (modern: Neptune)

Each sign lasts until the next one begins. Many websites print one fixed set of dates for every year; these are computed, which is why some signs show two possible days.

Find your sign in the table; if you were born on an entry date, read the next section.

Born on the cusp: which sign are you?

If your birthday falls on one of the “or” dates above, you were born on what astrologers call the cusp, and your sign depends on the year, the time and the place of your birth. Two examples from 2027 show why: someone born in New York on March 20, 2027 at 10 a.m. is a Pisces, because the Sun only enters Aries at 4:25 p.m. ET that day; someone born at 6 p.m. the same day is an Aries.

For a reliable answer, look up the Sun’s entry time for your birth year and compare it with your birth time, converted to Eastern Time if you were born elsewhere. There is no “cusp sign” in between: astrology places the Sun in one sign or the other.

On a cusp date, your birth time decides your sign.

How is a daily horoscope built?

A thoughtful daily horoscope starts from where the planets and the Moon are on that day and reads them against your sign. Three moving pieces carry most of the weight:

  • The Moon, which changes sign every 2.28 days on average (from 1.96 to 2.54 days between November 2026 and October 2027). It sets the emotional tone of the day and is why readings change from one day to the next. The moon phase page explains its cycle.
  • The fast planets: Mercury for communication, Venus for love and pleasure, Mars for drive. When Mercury turns retrograde, readings shift toward review and patience; the Mercury retrograde page has the dates.
  • Lunations: new moons and full moons are high points of the month. The full moon calendar lists them with the sign each falls in.

Most daily horoscopes then sort that reading into a few areas of life (love, work, well-being) and close with a piece of advice for the day, sometimes a lucky color or number.

A good daily horoscope names the sky behind its advice; a vague one doesn’t.

What does today’s horoscope focus on for each sign?

Each sign brings its own lens to the day. Here’s what astrology traditionally emphasizes in a daily reading, sign by sign, so you know what to look for in yours.

Aries

Initiative and courage. A daily reading for Aries usually asks where to put your energy first and where to slow down before reacting. Advice tends toward action, with a word on patience.

Taurus

Stability, comfort and steady effort. Taurus readings look at what’s worth your time and what feels secure, at home and at work. Expect advice about pacing and enjoying simple pleasures.

Gemini

Conversations, ideas and connections. With Mercury as its ruler, Gemini’s day turns on messages, meetings and choices between options. Advice often concerns focus.

Cancer

Home, family and feelings. The Moon rules Cancer, so its reading follows the Moon closely and talks about emotional needs and the people close to you.

Leo

Self-expression, warmth and recognition. Leo readings look at where you can shine and how generously you lead. Advice often balances confidence with listening.

Virgo

Organization, care and useful work. Virgo’s day is read through routines, details and helping others. Advice tends to say: do it well, then let it be good enough.

Libra

Relationships, fairness and harmony. Libra readings focus on partnerships and decisions involving others. Advice often concerns choosing rather than weighing forever.

Scorpio

Depth, trust and transformation. Scorpio readings look at what lies beneath the surface: shared plans, loyalty, honest conversations. Advice usually invites letting go of control.

Sagittarius

Learning, travel and the big picture. Sagittarius readings follow plans, studies and ideas about meaning. Advice tends toward optimism with a reality check on details.

Capricorn

Goals, structure and responsibility. Capricorn readings track long-term projects and work. Advice often makes room for rest alongside ambition.

Aquarius

Friends, groups and new ideas. Aquarius readings look at community, independence and what’s ahead. Advice often concerns staying open to other people’s views.

Pisces

Intuition, imagination and compassion. Pisces readings follow dreams, creativity and emotional tides. Advice usually asks for clear boundaries and quiet time.

Read your sign’s daily horoscope through its lens; that’s where the advice will make sense.

Should you read your Sun sign or your rising sign?

Your Sun sign describes your core self, and that’s what nearly all daily horoscopes use. Your rising sign (or ascendant) is the sign coming up on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth; it changes about every two hours on average and requires your exact birth time and place. Many astrologers suggest reading both: the Sun sign horoscope for your overall mood, the rising sign one for the events of the day. If you don’t know your birth time, stay with your Sun sign.

Start with your Sun sign; add your rising sign once you know your birth time.

Horoscope today and tomorrow: how far ahead does it work?

A daily horoscope is written for one day because the Moon changes sign every two days or so. Readings for tomorrow work the same way, one day later. Weekly and monthly horoscopes lean on slower movements, such as the Sun’s entry into a new sign or Mercury’s retrograde dates, and describe trends rather than single days.

Use the daily reading for the mood, the monthly one for the plan.

The limits of a horoscope

Astrology is a symbolic tradition, not a science that predicts events. A horoscope can give you a theme to think about, a reason to pause before a conversation or a nudge to do something you’ve been putting off. It can’t tell you what will happen, and a reading that promises outcomes, or plays on your worries, isn’t one worth following.

Used that way, a daily horoscope is a small ritual of attention, a lot like noticing a repeating number on the clock; the angel numbers guide works in the same spirit.

Take what helps, leave the rest, and keep decisions in your own hands.

Key takeaways

  • Your Sun sign depends on the exact date and time the Sun entered it in your birth year; the table gives the dates for 2020 to 2035.
  • On a cusp date, your birth time decides your sign; there is no in-between sign.
  • Daily horoscopes rest mostly on the Moon’s sign, which changes every 2.28 days on average, plus Mercury, Venus and Mars.
  • Each sign has its own focus: Aries action, Taurus stability, Gemini communication, Cancer home, Leo expression, Virgo care, Libra relationships, Scorpio depth, Sagittarius horizons, Capricorn goals, Aquarius community, Pisces intuition.
  • A horoscope offers themes, not predictions.
